Evaluation of the efficiency of complementary wastewater treatments with the help of bioassays
Complementary treatments in wasterwater treatment plants (WWTPs) can be evaluated with the help of biotests – as has been shown in the MicroPoll project. The Ecotox Centre now investigates by order of the ProRheno AG if in the Basel WWTP the ozonation followed by sand filtration or the treatment with powdered activated carbon is more suitable as a complementary treatment. Both methods are able to further reduce harmful micropollutants that have not been completely removed in the biological treatment.
Applied test systems
- Yeast Estrogen Screen
- Combined Algae Test
- In situ feeding assay with gammarids
- Chronic reproduction test with daphnids
- Fish Early Life Stage Test (FELST) with early life stages of rainbow trout
