DEMEAU - Demonstration of promising technologies toaddress emerging pollutants in water and waste water

The EU project DEMEAU (Seventh Framework Programme) deals with promising technologies that tackle emerging pollutants in water and waste water. The project promotes the use of prototypes and practices that have been developed in previous research projects such as bioassays, which have been shown to be useful tools for assessing the performance of wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). Therefore DEMEAU aims to further optimize bioassays and to enhance their regulatory acceptance so they are increasingly used. Together with Eawag and various European project partners the Ecotox centre is working towards this goal. Selected bioassays are applied at the WWTP Neugut, which is currently establishing Switzerland's first larce-scale ozonation plant.
