Workshop on risk communication on PFAS
The risks to the environment and humans posed by perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances - PFAS for short - are currently on everyone's lips. For the dialogue with politics and society, it is not only important to assess these risks, but also to communicate them. For this reason, the Ecotox Centre has brought together experts from administration, associations, organisations and the media for a workshop on risk communication on PFAS in order to exchange views on this topic and to learn about possible pitfalls. The SCAHT also participated in the organisation of the event.
Risk awareness and risk understanding can only be created through successful risk communication. The Ecotox Centre and the SCAHT had already held a first risk communication workshop for professionals in November 2022. We are currently preparing a French event on PFAS risk communication. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published a proposal to restrict the use of PFAS in February 2023.
