SETAC Symposium on mixture toxicity: Ecotox Centre is co-organiser
The Ecotox Centre is the co-organiser of a SETAC Special Science Symposium on the topic of mixture toxicity. Organisms in the environment are exposed to complex mixtures of contaminants. However, the environmental effects of chemicals are traditionally evaluated and regulated based on single substances. Various state-of-the-art approaches to the risk assessment of mixtures will be presented at the symposium. Moreover, the possible implementation of the mixture perspective into regulatory frameworks will be discussed. Other topics will include the development of appropriate environmental quality standards for chemical mixtures. The symposium takes place in Brussels on 2/3 February 2011.
