PFAS in Swiss sediments

Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl compounds (PFAS) are very stable in the environment and are therefore detected almost everywhere. A new study investigates the occurrence of PFAS in Swiss sediments. It shows that the analysis of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) is suitable as an indicator substance for the occurrence of PFAS. In addition, sediment quality criteria for PFOS in sediments are determined. However, these are provisional values, as there are still not enough toxicity data available.
