Info sheet on PFAS in the environment
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) comprise a group of more than 4700 industrial chemicals used in numerous processes and products, such as coatings and firefighting foams. The substances are very stable in the environment and are therefore detected almost worldwide in water, soil, air and organisms. This is of concern because PFAS can accumulate in wildlife and humans and are often toxic. A new Ecotox Centre info sheet gives information on the occurrence of PFAS in the environment, their toxicity and the regulatory situation.
