Bioindicators and soil reference values for plant protection products
The Ecotox Centre has been working on a comprehensive concept for monitoring pesticide residues in agricultural soils since 2019. The project is embedded in the federal government's action plan for risk reduction and sustainable use of plant protection products. In the first project phase, we developed a recommendation for a procedure to derive ecotoxicological soil guidance values (SGV), which will be applied to 10 prioritised active ingredients of plant protection products. The first two data dossiers for the derivation of the SGVs for difenoconazole and pendiméthaline have just been published on our website, other substances will follow shortly.
We have also compiled a toolbox of potential bioindicators for monitoring the effects of plant protection products. The toolbox contains ecotoxicological and ecological methods with organisms that are important for the protection of soil fertility: namely earthworms, enchytrids, springtails, nematodes, microorganisms, fungi and plants. These bioindicators are now to be evaluated for their variability and sensitivity in pilot studies. You can find more information in the reports on our website.
