        Tasks at the Ecotox Centre
- Implementation, validation and development of biological methods based on the study of oligochaete communities for assessing the quality of sediments in watercourses and lakes (fine/sandy sediments ; coarse surface sediments/hyporheic zone)
 - Development of oligochaete indices based on the identification of species using DNA barcodes (high-throughput sequencing of genetically tagged specimens, DNA metabarcoding)
 - Building of a DNA barcode reference library of aquatic oligochaete species (specimens collected in Switzerland)
 - Establishment of in situ effect thresholds of pollutants in sediments (metals, PCBs, PAHs and pesticides) based on the study of oligochaete communities
 - Development of a genetic chironomid index for lakes (high-throughput sequencing of genetically tagged specimens)
 - Description/redescription of oligochaete species, inventory of aquatic oligochaetes in Switzerland (surface sediments, hyporheic zone, groundwater)

Areas of Expertise
- Classical systematics (aquatic oligochaetes)
 - Aquatic ecology
 - Molecular systematics
